Duties
- The incumbent will consult with and advise clients on appropriate legal requirements and risks, as they apply to businesses generally and to higher education in particular, that are related to privacy, security, and information management.
- Likewise, he/she will provide guidance and counsel on IP matters, including guidance on marketing, advertising, and claim substantiation and participate in the development of IP policies.
- Similarly, the candidate will serve as a key point of contact and subject matter expert for the System’s insurance programs, taking ownership for supporting clients’ needs with respect to insurance coverage matters including handling of claims and understanding of coverage program and policy provisions, managing relationship with insurance brokers, and supporting OGC team members with insurance matters as they arise through contracting processes.
- Likewise, he/she will provide risk mitigation advice and counsel as needed on a broad range of regulatory and legal matters applicable to the System office and its affiliated institutions.
- Also. perform other related duties as assigned by General Counsel.

- Ability to prioritize and work on multiple projects in different areas, independently and simultaneously.
- Strong relationship building and leadership skills.
Qualifications:
- J.D. and licensed or eligible to be licensed in the state of Illinois.
- A minimum of 4-6 years of experience with significant responsibility for handling workload with minimum supervision.
- Also, combined experience in the law firm and in-house legal experience preferred.
- Expertise in advising clients with respect to cyber, data privacy, and IP issues.
- Additionally, the ability to handle insurance coverage claims and understand policy programs.
- Likewise, experience in general corporate law and international business transactions.
- Higher Education law experience preferred.
- Also, experience with drafting policies and procedures preferred.
- Experience with California law preferred.
- Additionally, the ability to work some evenings/weekends and travel as needed
