Duties

The Research Associate position will provide analytical support to the planning, development, and implementation of sponsored research projects, simulation exercises, and global health security activities associated with the Center for Global Health Science and Security. The Research Associate will :

  • help design and apply tools to identify gaps in national and regional capabilities for the detection and response to emerging disease threats from surveillance to laboratory systems;
  • Additionally, draft analytical reports to characterize gaps and opportunities for capacity building through international partnerships;
  • Also, support the development and testing of case studies and other original training and educational materials. Likewise, assist in the planning and implementation of simulation exercises and workshops to test national, regional, and global capabilities to respond to biological events.

The successful candidate must be flexible and capable of responding to rapidly evolving needs for the planning, development, and implementation of research projects and training events as a valued member of a multi-disciplinary team.

Qualifications

The candidate must be capable of analyzing global health security policies and biological risk management with moderate supervision, adapting complex research methodologies as needed. This position requires:

  • Master’s degree in the biological sciences or related field;
  • Additionally, 1-2 years of experience in applied research techniques and data analysis in a life sciences laboratory OR an undergraduate degree in biology or science-related field;
  • Also, knowledge of current concepts in global health security, biological threat agents and risk management policies and practices;
  • Additionally, the ability to work independently and in collaboration with a team;
  • Likewise, the candidate should be able to prioritize, focus and achieve results in a fast-paced and complex environment;
  • Similarly, the ability to work with colleagues and partners of diverse backgrounds and attention to detail.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in conducting policy analysis related to biohazardous threat agents, microbiology, infectious diseases, and/or emerging technologies;
  • Advanced organizational, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills;
  • Knowledge of information management systems and platforms;
  • Similarly, strong information technology/computer skills;
  • Furthermore, foreign language proficiency.
