Job Description:
Norwich University is accepting applications for two Mental Health Counselors. These are two new, temporary positions approved for one academic year (August-May) that may be reclassified as regular, continuing positions at the end of the year. Additionally, one position requires extensive multicultural experience and prior participation in DEI initiatives.
Duties
- Conduct regular office hours (Monday through Friday).
- Complete intake assessments.
- Also, the incumbent will maintain an active caseload through conducting individual therapy, including diagnosis and case management.
- Likewise, maintain relationships with and make referrals to appropriate mental health care professionals, community agencies, or providers as warranted.
- Work with hospital staff to coordinate student inpatient stays and streamline their discharge planning.
- Also, provide crisis intervention on a rotating week on-call basis (to include weekends).
- Additionally, respond to mental health disasters, after hours, as necessary.
- Offer at least one group therapy experience per academic year based on overall need.
- Facilitate at least one outreach activity per semester to support the CWC office’s mission to educate students about wellness issues facing college students through means such as a facilitated discussion, presentation, workshop, or screenings, in addition to student leader training.
- Furthermore, act as a consultant to, and work collaboratively with, Student Health Services in the management of clinical cases.
Requirements:
Education:
Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, Clinical Psychology, or other specialty related to job function.
Experience:
- At least three years of full-time mental health counseling experience.
- Preferred experience counseling young adults/college students in a college counseling center from a brief-oriented model of service delivery.
- Also, experience and skill working with multicultural populations, including international students, TLGBT students, BIPOC students, athletes, veterans, and others.
- Additionally, experience in training and/or speaking to small and large groups is necessary.
Special skills, knowledge, license, certifications:
- Licensed or license-eligible master’s level practitioner.
- Likewise, the candidate must maintain licensure or be actively working toward licensure for continued employment.
- Demonstrated analytical skills, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
Must be able to:
- Relate effectively with all members of a diverse academic community.
- Work in a fast-paced, high volume environment.
- Prioritize, multi-task, and meet deadlines.
- Also, use computers, telephones, and general office equipment, including proficiency in Banner, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook; they must develop proficiency as needed.
- Speak, read, and write in English.
- Likewise, communicate by telephone, email, letter, or in person.
- Similarly, sit, stand, kneel, squat, reach, push, pull, and use hands and fingers to manipulate office equipment.
- Also, mobility outdoors to various parts of the campus.
- Lift 15 pounds.
