he Writing Coordinator gives leadership and direction to the writing program for undergraduate and graduate students. The writing center is located in the library and offers in-person and remote support through 1-1 tutoring and just-in-time workshops or sessions at key times of the semester. The coordinator collaborates with the librarians to offer writing support while also training and supervising student tutors. The Writing Coordinator serves as a liaison to faculty to support instructional needs.
Additional tasks will include organization and teaching the summer bridge program for students who enter GC with an identified need for additional support due to low GPA, 1st generation, or other at-risk factors. Additionally, he/she will also serve on the Advising Team to register and support new students in the spring and summer.
Furthermore, this position will offer key academic services and play a critical role in the enrollment and retention processes. Also, the position includes regular interaction with students and collaborates with faculty, staff, coaches, and other offices. Likewise, direct supervision will be with the director of the Academic Success Center along with the Assistant Dean.
Minimum Education: Masters degree, preferably in English, TESOL, Education or related field
Experience: At least five years’ teaching experience and expertise in teaching writing and tutoring at the college level, particularly with research writing and a broad scope of writing abilities. Also, an understanding of higher education, academic majors, and graduation requirements to assist in academic advising.
Skills: The position requires a high level of written and oral communication skills.
Organizational skills; ability to work effectively with a diverse group of people, including faculty, students, and administrators.
Systems Knowledge: Computer knowledge including Word, Excel, and Google, in addition to Moodle and online resources for working remotely with students.
