The mission of the WHO’s Health Emergencies Programme is to build the capacity of Member States to manage health emergency risks and, when national capacities are overwhelmed, to lead and coordinate the international health response to contain outbreaks and to provide effective relief and recovery to affected populations.
Duties
- Implement WHO guidance, standards, SOPs and tools, as needed.
- Furthermore, provide technical guidance and support the development and implementation of robust health policies, programmes and plans in response to the health emergency For NGOs and the local health authorities.
- Also, advise and collaborate on the development, implementation, and evaluation of technical cooperation programs in the areas of health governance, health policy and systems development, health services organization, and management supporting universal health coverage.
- Likewise, provide technical assistance and design an operational plan for the implementation of the basic health service
- Additionally, ensure continuity of care at emergencies particularly for people with chronic disorders, pregnant mothers, children under 5 years morbidities and disabilities etc. and provide measures to strengthen referral channels.
- Also, contribute to the identification and targeting of health inequities and the inclusion of vulnerable groups
- Furthermore, to the development, planning, and training of Human Resources in Health
- Also, the planning and implementation of the technical activities pertaining to the quality of care and the health services infrastructure and priority programmes based on the needs of affected populations.
Qualifications for Vacancy for Technical Officer
Education
- Essential: An advanced university degree (Master’s level or above) in medicine, public health, health systems/services administration. Also, health management or health-related field from an accredited/recognized institute.
- Desirable: Experience
- Essential: At least seven years of progressive experience, including 2 years at the international level, in areas related to health systems recovery and development, health services delivery in emergencies. Also, an extension of health care services to underserved populations/areas, and developing strategies to overcome barriers to accessing health care services, including essential medicines.
- Desirable: Prior humanitarian working experience at field level with WHO, other UN agency, Health Cluster partners. Recognized Humanitarian Organizations or with an international Non-Governmental Organization with expertise in disaster and health emergencies response.
