Applications are open for Post Doctoral Fellowship at Virginia Commonwealth University in the United States of America. The Department of Medicinal Chemistry is seeking a Chemical Biology Postdoctoral Fellow.

The incumbent will perform research under the supervision of Dr. Yana Cen. The research aims to understand the roles of mammalian enzymes play in physiological and pathological processes and to use this knowledge to identify novel therapeutic targets for the treatment of human diseases.

In particular, the department interested in a class of epigenetic modification enzymes called sirtuins, which are involved in protein post-translational modification and have important biological functions. VCU takes a highly integrative chemical biology approach to study the enzymology, identify the modified protein targets, and study the biological significance of the modification. It also develops small-molecule regulators targeting these enzymes as therapeutics for age-related diseases and cancer.

Requirements

Candidates on this Post Doctoral Fellowship position at Virginia Commonwealth University will have the following qualifications

• PhD in Biochemistry, Molecular and Cellular Biology, Chemical Biology or a related discipline.
• Experience with genetically engineering bacteria, protein purification, enzymatic assays as well as cell biology techniques.
• Possesses a strong scientific record and excellent communication skills.
• Must have the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Willingness to help mentor junior scientists.
