The Department of Ophthalmology in the College of Medicine, is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to conduct research on gene and cell therapy of lysosomal storage diseases, e.g., cystinosis, MPS VII (Type VII mucopolysaccharidosis).

Summary Position

This Post-Doc Fellowship position at the University of Cincinnati will design and carry out experiments to determine the outcomes of the CRISPR editing of cystinotic and Gusb (MPSVII) mice utilizing gene cloning, PCR, confocal microscopy, imaging analysis, cell culture, viral packaging, purification, CRISPR gene editing and small animal surgery. They will collaborate with a research assistant(s) who provide technical support in tissue culture, PCR genotyping, electroporation, AAV virus preparation, mouse surgery, etc.

They will also mentor junior graduate students, medical students and undergraduate students of Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) programs, as well as be responsible for lab maintenance, including equipment maintenance and ordering of supplies, as needed. The Postdoctoral Fellow is expected to write manuscripts of their experimental data for publication and is encouraged to submit fellowship grant applications to extramural funding agencies.

Requirement

• A PhD in Ophthalmology, Molecular Biology, or a related field is necessary prior to the effective date of appointment.
