Applications are open for PostDoctoral Fellowship at the University of Arkansas in the United States of America.  As a member of a multi-disciplinary team, the incumbent will identify, enumerate, and infer movement and fate of antimicrobial resistant (AMR) bacteria and genes through the life cycle of broiler chickens (antibiotic treatment—to excreta via manure (both poultry litter and cattle)—through the environment.

Duties of this PostDoctoral Fellowship at the University of Arkansas include but are not limited to processing and analyzing poultry litter, soil, and water samples for genotypic and phenotypic analyses including next generation microbial DNA amplicon sequencing, PCR, and qPCR. Responsibilities also include metagenomics statistical analysis for phylogenetic predictions based on AMR bacterial presence. The incumbent is expected to have previous bioinformatics software experience, a strong microbiology background, and extensive laboratory experience.

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD. in Agronomy, Soil Science, Food Science, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Cell Biology, Microbiology, Food Safety, or a closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Applicants who have extensive 16S and PCR laboratory experience and knowledge of 16S bioinformatics preferred.
  • Additionally, the applicant is expected to have previous bioinformatics software experience, a strong microbiology background, and extensive laboratory experience.
  • Portable DNA sequencer experience is also preferred.
