The primary project will involve studying the microbiome of dry edible pea under disease, saline, and drought stress. This will include a combination of fieldwork and laboratory assays. The project will involve cutting-edge microbial ecology approaches including the use of synthetic communities for the mechanistic dissection of plant-microbe interactions.
The researcher will work in a diverse research environment that also includes a major research thrust in rhizobium-legume symbiosis. The candidate will have the opportunity to work with a multidisciplinary research team that includes research experts in plant breeding, plant stress, and plant pathology. Opportunities for mentorship and leading in the research group will be presented as well as contributing to and developing new and independent lines of research. Working with biological and chemical hazards, working outdoors in various environmental conditions, willing to travel to sites across North Dakota. Ability to work in the field in inclement weather, digging of samples, , carry the weight of up to 50lbs, willingness to travel long distances across North Dakota, repeated hand movements due to pipetting.
