The temporary position of Security Officer is now open. The position is within the Security and Safety Section (SSS) of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA). The officer should perform armed security functions under the overall command of the Chief of Security and Safety Section and reports directly to the Security Sergeant.
The Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) forms part of the United Nations Secretariat and, operates under the supervision of the United Nations Economic and Social Council. ESCWA activities are coordinated with the divisions and main offices of the Headquarters of the United Nations, specialized agencies, and international and regional organizations.
Within limits of delegated authority, the Security Officer will be responsible for the following duties:
Provide security coverage at entry points throughout the UN’s premises and at the annexe buildings to prevent entry to unauthorized people.
Screen all personnel, packages and vehicles entering the premises.
Conduct exterior, garage, garden and watch-tour patrols within the Headquarters district and at the annexe buildings.
Also, provide information and directions to all persons associated with the Organization, including visitors.
Control, identify and clear pedestrian and vehicular traffic entering and exiting the premises.
Maintain logbooks and records as required.
Moreover, maintain alertness for any potential or actual breach of security and any disturbance or unusual activity and report these and all security, fire, and safety violations to the Security Control Centre.
Ensure that all UN property being carried from the complex is checked for appropriate documentation.
Furthermore, perform other related duties as assigned.
English and French are the working languages of the UN Secretariat. Arabic is also a working language of ESCWA.
For this position, you need to have fluency in both Arabic and English.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include a series of assessments including the following but not limited to:
physical fitness assessment
written technical assessment
an interview
psychological assessment
firearm test simulation
a medical exam including a toxicology test is also necessary.
Moreover, candidates must pass each stage to progress to the next assessment for possible recruitment.
Special Notice
Applicants should be between 22 and 35 years of age.
You should perform all the duties in uniform.
Duties may require long periods of standing, working evenings, overnights and on weekends.
Computer skills, investigative skills, hazardous materials skills, personal protection skills are an asset.
Candidates will be required to obtain appropriate firearms permits once on board.
This position is temporarily available until 31 December 2022 from the date of appointment/assignment.
Candidates are fully responsible for all arrangements and costs for attending all assessments and interviews.
Staff members are subject to the authority of the Secretary-General, who may assign them to any task or function in the organization. In this context, all staff are expected to move periodically to new functions during their careers per established rules and procedures.
