The Atlas Corps Russian and American Virtual Leadership Initiative is an online nonprofit development and training program launched as part of the global Atlas Corps Virtual Leadership Institute. In the process of learning, its participants develop professional skills and leadership qualities as well as establish international contacts.

The program is supported by the US Embassy in Moscow and is designed to improve communication as well as cooperation between Russian and American social workers. In addition, participants will have access to the Atlas Corps international community of 1100+ social leaders from 110+ countries.

What will happen in the Program?

The program consists of five training modules:

  1. Orientation
  2. Developing Self
  3. Developing Others
  4. Leading Movements
  5. Reflection

For five months, you will have sessions with leading social experts from the US and other countries, interactive workshops from American non-profit organizations, discussion groups, networking events, as well as self-study. During the training, the topics of intercultural dialogue, diversity, justice and inclusiveness, the development of civil society in the United States and Russia will also gain attention.

Throughout the program, participants will also work on their own projects aimed at personal professional development and/or positive social change. Work on projects takes place in small groups with mentors. Participants who successfully complete the training will be able to apply for grants of up to $1,000 to further their projects.

What do participants get?

  • Opportunity to receive a grant up to $1,000 USD for the implementation of a project developed within the framework of the program as well as aimed at one’s own professional development or positive social changes
  • Moreover, mentioning participants and their projects in social networks, blogs, and other Atlas Corps platforms

Basic selection criteria

  1. be a US citizen or resident or; a Russian citizen permanently residing in Russia
  2. From two years of experience in social projects or organizations in the non-profit sector
  3. Completed higher education (bachelor, specialist, or master)
  4. Fluency in English
  5. Age up to 35 years old inclusive at the time of the program start
  6. Also, owns technical ability to participate in video calls — 1-2 per month
  7. Ability to perform online activities and tasks for 5 months
  8. Moreover, desire to apply the acquired knowledge in their work in Russia or the USA.

Participation in the program will also be useful for beginners and mid-level professionals who have experience in or are interested in international relations (especially Russian-American) and diplomacy.

Additionally, candidates should have two or more years of full-time experience in at least one of the following skill areas:

How is the program selected?

Candidates for the Atlas Corps Russian & American Virtual Leadership Initiative must complete an abbreviated online application.

If you have already submitted in the previous years then you can update your previous application then send an email to inform Atlas Corps of the resubmission.
