A nation has four groups of individuals: Children, Youth, Middle-aged and the Elderly or Senior Citizens. Of these, the youths are the most important, as they are the backbone of the nation, determining her future.

The role of youth is to refresh, renew and maintain. They are to refresh and renew the current status of a nation in terms of leadership, innovation and skill, they are to advance the technology, education of the nation and they are to maintain the culture and uphold the good values of the society.

Unfortunately, we have failed to realize the power we hold in this society and have come up with various excuses to justify our lackadaisical actions. How can a generation born into a life of technology, internet and social media complain of unemployment? For one thing, Social Media has given us a million and one ways to create gainful and legal employment!

Remember when we were younger and were told that we were the LEADERS OF TOMORROW, well, “TOMORROW” is here, making us LEADERS OF TODAY. We cannot keep sitting down waiting for “Nigeria to change”, when we are the change Nigeria needs. We should ask ourselves “Is this the Nigeria we want our children/ the next generation to know?”

We need to buckle our shoes and tighten our seat belts as Nigeria needs us more than it knows, we need to step out of our comfort zone to create our dream nation. We need to stop making lists of everything that is wrong about our country and start creating solutions, stop complaining and whining and start thinking and acting.

This is a charge for every Nigerian Youth, both home and abroad. Nigeria is our mother-land, we need to refresh and renew her current status in terms of leadership, innovation and skill, advance her technology and education, maintain her culture and uphold her good values.

My heart to you, I bare on this piece. Let us start DOING!
