Academic Advisor I position is available at Temple University.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise students concerning schedules, majors, hours, probation and/or suspension.
  • Help disseminate information regarding curriculum requirements, academic policy, and other related issues as they arise.
  • Meet regularly with assigned students to discuss academic as well as professional goals.
  • Help prepares and present student orientation sessions, assists with course selections and registration activities
  • Provide access to information and resources for the achievement of academic, career and personal goals.
  • In addition, act as an advocate and referral source and provides consistent outreach and follow up services.
  • Represent the Center for Performing and Cinematic Arts at various related internal and external meetings and events and helps to position Temple and advising as highly respected and proactive.
  • Help to facilitate communication of the Vision, Mission, policies and procedures and academic goals of the College and Temple University while assisting with their development and implementation.
  • Moreover, help to coordinate advising with career planning.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Master’s degree and at least six months advising experience in an academic setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel and Power Point.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills,
  • Intensive concentration and excellent listening skills.
  • Must prioritize well and focus on completion of tasks and objectives while under stress of demanding work schedule.
  • Must maintain a positive and objective ‘customer service’ approach and attitude when confronted with difficult, highly emotional students, and advising/counseling situations (in person, and/or via phone, mail, or email).
  • Ability to travel to other campus buildings and to regional campuses for meetings and events.
  • Also, an ability to work nights/weekends as needed.
  • Experience working in higher education is preferred
