The University of Stavanger is calling for applications for an academic job as Associate Professor in Biological Chemistry/Cell Biology. The position is open for appointment from the start of the academic year 2022/23.

About the Academic  Job

The hired candidate will primarily teach and supervise students at bachelor’s, master’s and PhD levels within the subject area, conduct research as well as disseminate research results within relevant research areas at the department, and contribute to the development of partnerships with business.

Furthermore, the university encourages candidates to contribute to the development of partnerships with businesses based on results from research and academic development work.

Qualification\requirements

  • a PhD or equivalent qualification in Biological Chemistry, preferably Cell Biology. Candidates with expertise in Cell Biology on a model organism, ideally (zebra)fish, will be preferred.
  • Research experience in omics approaches to address organismal areas such as genetics, developmental biology, epigenetics, endocrinology is preferable.
  • able to document active, ongoing research at a high academic level and have the potential for future high-level research in the subject area.
  • document qualifications as an independent researcher at the international level within the research areas
  • also, document adequate scientific comprehensiveness to be able to teach the central courses at Bachelor and Master levels.
  • have supervised students in their thesis work up to PhD level or at least have experience with co-supervision at PhD level.
  • also have a strong publication record in international peer-reviewed scientific journals
  • fluency in both spoken and written English language.
  • In addition, you should have a track record of obtaining competitive research funding and experience in leading research projects.
  • must be able to document pedagogical and didactic skills relating to higher education, and basic skills in planning, evaluation and development of teaching and supervision.
  • teach and supervise in Norwegian (equivalent to level B2), or another Scandinavian language, within a period of three years from accession.

  • experience of partnerships with businesses relevant to the subject area

  • ability to manage heavy workload, inquisitiveness and motivation to contribute to the development of academic and interdisciplinary collaboration at the university
  • good teamwork and communication skills as well as possess the ability to contribute to a constructive working environment
