Position Title: Assistant Professor of Law

About Gonzaga University

Gongaza University is a private Roman Catholic university in Spokane, Washington, United States of America. The university has bachelor’s degrees, master’s degrees, and doctoral degrees through its seven colleges – the College of Arts and Sciences, School of Business Administration, School of Education, School of Engineering & Applied Science, School of Law, School of Nursing and Human Physiology, and the School of Professional Studies. However, it is one of 28 member institutions of the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities. In overall, the campus houses 105 buildings on 152 acres (62 ha) of grassland alongside the Spokane River, in a residential setting one-half-mile (800 m) from downtown Spokane.

Roles and responsibilities

Instructional duties

  • Plan, evaluate, and revise curricula, course content, course materials, and methods of instruction for law students;
  • Supervise and advise students enrolled in self-directed legal research and writing projects;
  • Teach doctrinal classes in the law school as well as engage with student advisees to plan their law school curriculum.

Professional development

  • Contribute to the intellectual exchange of ideas, enrich teaching, and educate the profession about the law.
  • Engage in continuing professional development as a member of the academic community.
  • Presentations to academic, professional, and community groups. Also, participation in activities of regional, national, or international professional organizations.
  • Appointment to a consultant’s position or an editorship as well as participation in workshops or seminars.
  • Selection for grants, fellowships, and awards.

Administrative Duties

  • Attending meetings of the law faculty as well as active involvement in law school and University committees;
  • Student counseling and advising;
  • Maintaining regular office hours and also providing the Registrar with a copy of the syllabus for each course taught and a copy of every examination given.
  • Cooperating with the school’s efforts to comply with applicable law.

Public service

  • Volunteering at a nonprofit charitable organization (either law-related or non-law-related) or advocating on its behalf.
  • Working on a pro bono cases as well as serving at a public agency.
  • Providing legal education to the legal community or to the public at large.

Requirements 

  • Juris Doctor or equivalent degree earned from an ABA-accredited law school or its equivalent. In addition to that, demonstrated record of academic excellence.
  • Evidence of superior recommendations.
  • Furthermore, a record of excellent teaching or an ability to become an excellent teacher.
