About the University of Southern Mississippi 

The University of Southern Mississippi is a public research university with its main campus in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, United States. The other large campus, Gulf Park, is in Long Beach, with five additional teaching and research sites, including the John C. Stennis Space Center and the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory (GCRL).  In overall, the university includes polymer science research center, and a highly-ranked Fine Arts program including music, art and design, dance, and theater, its highly ranked graduate programs in education, clinical psychology, nursing, social work, speech-language pathology, English, and history, and its online graduate programs in nursing and business (MBA). Moreover, the university has an extensive study-abroad program to about 20 countries through its Center for International Education. Furthermore, the university’s British Studies program regularly sends more than 200 students each summer to live and study in London.

About position

The University of Southern Mississippi is seeking a leader to manage and direct the Psychology School of the university. In general, the incumbent will have to demonstrate strong leadership, communication and collaboration skills and who will foster innovation and growth in the School of Psychology at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. In particular, the Director of the School of Psychology

  • Providing leadership for School undergraduate and graduate programs and ensuring that curricula, instruction, assessment, research, and outreach are innovative, of the highest quality, and aligned with accreditation guidelines and College and University strategic plans.
  • Overseeing School administration, including staffing courses, managing the budget, overseeing staff, engaging with fundraising efforts. Also, ensuring efficient/effective day-to-day operations of the School.
  • Articulating and pursuing a vision of growth for the School, developed collaboratively with faculty and consistent with College and University goals, that fosters success for all stakeholders across all programs and across all domains.
  • Providing leadership and effective representation and advocacy for the School at the College and University levels. Similarly, contribute to the establishment and implementation of School, College, and University policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Facilitating faculty development and collaborative engagement in the meaningful evaluation of faculty. Also, teaching undergraduate and/or graduate-level courses in the discipline.
  • Furthermore, performing other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Graduate degree in Psychology or in a related field. In addition to that, professional experiences demonstrating leadership and management abilities in higher education.
  • Research and external funding experience.
  • Meeting expectations for tenure and promotion to Full Professor at, or within two years, of hiring.
