Boston University’s College of Fine Arts invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Music Theatre, non-tenure-track, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2022.

Job Description

The successful candidate will teach in the School’s BFA Performance Department undergraduate and graduate programs. They will also advise students on projects and productions specifically focused on the area of Music Theatre.

The ideal candidate will teach at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, fostering critical study, creative practice, and provocation in the classroom and beyond. Boston prefers applicants with strong skills in collaboration and communication, as well as professional networks to help bridge classroom experiences and the profession.

Qualification

  • professional experience in accompanying/teaching/coaching is desirable
  • have a comprehensive knowledge of repertoire and styles of music theatre
  • knowledge of classical vocal repertoire, and strong sight-reading skills
  • Proficiency with Finale and MainStage software programs and experience in arranging is desired.
  • a strong background in musical theatre and music directing & accompaniment
  • knowledge of the musical theatre canon as well as a passion for developing new work, and remaining current in the field with regard to evolving styles, techniques, and repertoire

Minimum Requirements:

  • Terminal degree or an equivalent record of professional accomplishments in the field
  • A record of professional accomplishments that merit a professorial rank appointment at the Boston University
  • Evidence of supporting, teaching, and/or mentoring emerging artists in the classroom and the field
  • Also the evidence of successfully promoting an environment that advances diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Proficiency in piano and orchestral conducting/accompaniment/coaching
  • A commitment to shared governance
  • Also dedication to collaboration

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching graduate or undergraduate students
  • Experience in curriculum development
  • A passion for innovative and cross-disciplinary programs
  • In addition, demonstrated commitment to new work
