Position Summary

This role is the key leader and administrator providing oversight for submission, management, and maintenance of a National Cancer Institute Cancer Center Support Grant (P30), which is awarded to cancer centers that meet the highest standards of research (basic, translational, clinical), clinical care, and population science as defined by the National Cancer Institute.

Duties

  • Responsible for leading the Meyer Cancer Center (MCC) through initial P30 submission as well as competitive and non-competitive renewal processes and site visits.
  • Additionally, the incumbent serves as the institutional authority on P30 guidelines and requirements; oversees all MCC efforts to address P30 requirements.
  • Similarly, he/she serves as the direct interface with NCI Cancer Center Program Office/Officials regarding P30 and supplement opportunities, guideline changes, fund carryover, grant compliance.
  • Likewise, he/she oversees finances of the P30 budget; partners with Director of Finance on post-award management.
  • Likewise, the candidate leads site visits of national/international cancer experts, university leadership, hospital leadership, and NCI personnel according to P30 guidelines for both initial grant submission and competitive renewals.
  • Leads the process for P30 planning and evaluation, including annual Advisory Board meetings; analyzes required data and documents in advance of board meetings; coordinates with faculty to ensure board presentations are concise, cohesive, and accurate.
  • Furthermore, the incumbent develops a strategy for alignment (and re-alignment) of Cancer Center Research Programs with P30 requirements.

Qualifications for Assistant Director Vacancy

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree

Experience

  • Advanced degree desired, preferably in cancer-related areas.
  • Additionally, prior experience participating in grant management or research administration at an NCI-designated center.
  • Also, direct involvement with P30 grant submission.
  • Prior experience in grant submissions.
  • Likewise, direct familiarity with P30 grant guidelines, processes, and expectations.
  • Additionally, approximately 5 years of related experience in a research management role.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • A collaborative approach to work and ability to supervise, lead and motivate staff.
  • Additionally, excellent communication skills and the ability to interact with all levels of the Institution.
  • Furthermore, knowledge of federal research regulations and familiarity with research compliance policies and accounting systems.
