The College of Arts, Letters, and Science at Southwest Minnesota State University opens the vacancy position of Assistant Professor of Communication Studies. The position is a nine-month Probationary/Tenure Track appointment in the Communication Studies Program at the Unit of Fine Arts and Communication.

Responsibilities 

The Assistant Professor of Communication Studies will be liable for teaching broadly in the area of Communication Studies. Teaching responsibilities (both traditional and online delivery) may include Public Relations, Health Communication, basic public speaking as well as other courses in areas of expertise (as needed). In addition to that, the position will be responsible for assisting with the active forensics team. Furthermore, duties may involve the supervision of concurrent enrollment offerings in area high schools. Faculty members might not need to engage in scholarly and creative activity, continuing preparation and study, contributing to student growth and development, and service to the university and community.

Requirements

Candidates must have the following qualifications in order to be eligible for Vacancy at Southwest Minnesota State University

  • Terminal degree in Communication or closely related field. However, candidates with Ph.D. in Communication or related fields are desirable
  • In addition to that, the experience of teaching and forensic coaching post-secondary level.
  • Candidates must have a student-centered approach to education and a commitment to helping grow the Communication Studies program.
  • Similarly, candidates must have an understanding and appreciation for liberal education.
  • Demonstrated commitment or proven strategies for fostering a diverse and inclusive environment.
  • Furthermore, demonstrated ability or proven strategies to teach and work with persons from diverse backgrounds is necessary.
