Position: Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice

About Savannah State University

Savannah State University is a public historically black university in Savannah, Georgia. It is the oldest public historically black university in the state. Savannah State operates three colleges: College of Business Administration, College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, College of Sciences and Technology. In addition to that, it manages the Office of Graduate Studies and Sponsored Research (OGSSR). The university offers 23 accredited undergraduate baccalaureate and 5 graduate master’s degree programs. In overall, there are over 4,500 students commencing studies in the different degree programs at Savannah State University.

About position

The Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences at Savannah State University is accepting applications for tenure track Assistant Professor position in Criminal Justice. The incumbent will teaches courses including teach Introduction to Criminal Justice, Research Methods, statistics, Crime Analysis, and Criminal Justice Management. Also, s/he might contribute to online course development/delivery, research, program /curriculum development, academic advising, and service. Furthermore, the Assistant Professor will conduct, lead and supervise research programs and complete any other duties assigned by Departments. The normal teaching load is 12 hours per semester with advising and community service responsibilities.

Requirements

In order to be eligible for this position, the candidates must have a Ph.D. in Criminal Justice, Law,  Political Science, Sociology, Forensic Science, or any other closely related field. However, prior experience of teaching Criminal Justice on higher level preferred but not a requirement. The J.D. alone will not meet the minimum qualifications for the position. However, background and/or credit check may be required.
