Job Summary

The Risk Manager for International Engagement and Compliance (RMIEC) is a recently created position that reports to the Associate Vice President for Research Integrity and Compliance (AVPRI&C). Additionally, the RMIEC assists the AVPRI&C in developing and maintaining risk mitigation and compliance procedures across a broad spectrum of international activities and University constituencies and will work with several departments to coordinate these efforts such as conflict of interest, quality compliance, the office of sponsored projects, international student office and the office of general counsel.

Duties for Associate Director Vacancy

  • Managing specialized projects and initiatives across research, academic and business constituencies responsive to the federal dialogue with Higher Education concerning Foreign Influence and coordinating Utah’s multidisciplinary approach to research integrity and compliance
  • Also, assisting the AVPRI&C with developing, maintaining and updating Utah’s strategic approach to overall research and intellectual property (IP) security, including coordinating faculty outreach
  • Similarly, supporting additional compliance functions such as:
    • Conflicts-of-interest/commitment reporting related to foreign influence
    • Also, tracking and communicating federal research compliance and reporting requirements
    • Likewise, supporting the Department of Education Section 117 foreign source reporting
  • Additionally, developing sustainable and auditable recordkeeping, monitoring, and training programs
  • Also, further developing the University’s foreign influence and compliance website and other internal information and educational resources.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or Public Administration, a related area, or equivalency required; plus 6-8 years of progressively more responsible management experience; and demonstrated leadership, human relations and effective communication skills also required.
  • Additionally, a Master’s degree in Business Administration or related area preferred.
  • Also, applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.

Preferences

  • Demonstrated ability to work comfortably with Information Technology solutions as they relate to data security and other compliance functions
  • Likewise, understanding of U.S. Customs import regulations and HHS/USDA/CDC biologics management
  • Also, understanding of patent application and PTO review process
