CARE Canada is currently seeking an Emergency Response Specialist – Gender in Emergencies. This job offers a 4-5 month contract along with the possibility of extension.
This position requires a very flexible individual, provides expertise and leadership at a senior level and who works well within a team. Experience in integrating gender equality considerations, with a particular focus on girls and women’s empowerment, into humanitarian interventions is required.
CARE helps women and girls in developing countries lift themselves and their families out of poverty and out of the crisis. It brings people together to end inequality as a whole community by developing solutions with women and girls and their communities. This aims to tackle the big issues facing them like climate change, economic empowerment, food security and emergency relief in times of crisis or disaster.
Promote and maintain an organizational culture that advances gender equality, reduces power abuse and inequalities as well as fosters trust and safety.
Create an environment within the workplaces, programming, and communities where CARE works, that is free from sexual harassment, sexual abuse and sexual exploitation and child abuse.
In addition, ensure high standards of prevention and response measures for SHEA-CA are in place consistent with the CARE International (CI) Policy on PSEA-CP and CI Performance Standards.
Qualifications
At least 5 years of gender in emergencies or GBV related emergency programming experience with international NGOs or international organisations, of which a minimum of 3 years have been completed in the field
Demonstrated experience in mainstreaming gender equality and GBV in at least one of CARE’s key sectors (WASH, Shelter, SRH & Food Security)
Experience leading or feeding into policy and advocacy work at the national or international level with regards to gender or GBV programming in emergencies
Demonstrated knowledge and skills in mainstreaming gender in program design, management/implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
In addition, ability to manage workflows, balance competing priorities and work effectively in a small, diverse, remote and busy team environment.
Field experience in an emergency response context, preferably with an international NGO.
Experience in project development and monitoring
Also, the experience in program design, management, monitoring and evaluation and has an understanding of the Core Humanitarian Standard
