The Institute of Cancer Sciences is seeking to appoint a Clinical Senior Lecturer in Palliative Medicine, part-time for 16 hours per week. It is part of the College of Medical, Veterinary, and Life Sciences. The Institute of Cancer Sciences is a major component of the Cancer Research UK Glasgow Centre.
Main Duties and Responsibilities of Clinical Senior Lecturer
- Take a lead in developing an evidence-based as well as a research-led approach to curriculum design.
- Also, take a lead in the development of a range of teaching, supervision, and assessment activities across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
- Undertake academic management to ensure high-quality course/programme administration, effective communication of information to internal and external stakeholders, and the development of policy and practice across course/programme teams.
- Create and develop effective networks with students, staff across the University, as well as external stakeholders to oversee the embedding of key University priorities.
- Develop a strategic approach to embedding learning technologies to support and enhance course/programme delivery, course organization, feedback, and assessment within campus-based, blended and online provision.
- Lead the development of inclusive and innovative approaches to teach, learning as well as assessment that recognizes the needs of a diverse student cohort.
- Develop a substantial portfolio of scholarship outputs, resources, and activities by leading methodologically rigorous, educationally relevant, inquiries into student learning as well as supporting and mentoring colleagues in their scholarship practices.
- Regularly attend and participate in appropriate seminars and conferences to support research-led teaching and scholarship in your disciplinary area
- Through an established network of external stakeholders.
- Initiate and lead local, and potentially overseas, activities associated with programme recruitment and conversion, orientation, and overseas collaborations as appropriate within the School/College.
- Engage in continuing professional development activities as appropriate.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the Head of School.
- In addition, contribute to the enhancement of the University’s international profile in line with the University’s Strategic Plan.
Qualifications
- Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 12 [Ph.D. or MD] or equivalent in a related discipline.
- Requisite clinical qualification as well as certification for clinical practice at Consultant level in the UK.
- Relevant and enduring membership of General Medical Council/General Dental Council.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
- Recognized expertise in Palliative Care to develop new knowledge and understanding within the field.
- A thorough understanding of, and track record in, contributing to broader academic leadership and management at Institute/School/Service/College level.
- Sustained engagement with current practice and developing knowledge.
- Engagement with the current and future priorities of University/College/Service strategies, aims, and ambitions.
- Also, membership of a relevant professional body, if applicable.
- Substantial track record of scholarship and development and delivery of teaching, and proven track record to develop and devise teaching programmes, techniques, and methods.
- Internationally recognized excellence and reputation in Palliative Care.
- Proven ability to plan and lead staff and efficiently deploy resources in support of major teaching activities.
- In addition, proven track record of developing as well as devising teaching programmes, techniques, and methods.
- Track record of student supervision and development/mentorship/coaching of early-career academic/clinical colleagues in subject area/team.
- Ability to disseminate conceptual and complex ideas to a wide variety of audiences to promote understanding.
- Moreover, the academic leadership of groups/activities with a substantial impact on finance and other resources.
