The Institute of Cancer Sciences is seeking to appoint a Clinical Senior Lecturer in Palliative Medicine, part-time for 16 hours per week. It is part of the College of Medical, Veterinary, and Life Sciences. The Institute of Cancer Sciences is a major component of the Cancer Research UK Glasgow Centre.

Main Duties and Responsibilities of Clinical Senior Lecturer 

  1. Take a lead in developing an evidence-based as well as a research-led approach to curriculum design.
  2. Also, take a lead in the development of a range of teaching, supervision, and assessment activities across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
  3. Undertake academic management to ensure high-quality course/programme administration, effective communication of information to internal and external stakeholders, and the development of policy and practice across course/programme teams.
  4. Create and develop effective networks with students, staff across the University, as well as external stakeholders to oversee the embedding of key University priorities.
  5. Develop a strategic approach to embedding learning technologies to support and enhance course/programme delivery, course organization, feedback, and assessment within campus-based, blended and online provision.
  6. Lead the development of inclusive and innovative approaches to teach, learning as well as assessment that recognizes the needs of a diverse student cohort.
  7. Develop a substantial portfolio of scholarship outputs, resources, and activities by leading methodologically rigorous, educationally relevant, inquiries into student learning as well as supporting and mentoring colleagues in their scholarship practices.
  8. Regularly attend and participate in appropriate seminars and conferences to support research-led teaching and scholarship in your disciplinary area
  9. Through an established network of external stakeholders.
  10. Initiate and lead local, and potentially overseas, activities associated with programme recruitment and conversion, orientation, and overseas collaborations as appropriate within the School/College.
  11. Engage in continuing professional development activities as appropriate.
  12. Undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the Head of School.
  13. In addition, contribute to the enhancement of the University’s international profile in line with the University’s Strategic Plan.

Qualifications

  • Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 12 [Ph.D. or MD] or equivalent in a related discipline.
  • Requisite clinical qualification as well as certification for clinical practice at Consultant level in the UK.
  • Relevant and enduring membership of General Medical Council/General Dental Council.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • Recognized expertise in Palliative Care to develop new knowledge and understanding within the field.
  •  A thorough understanding of, and track record in, contributing to broader academic leadership and management at Institute/School/Service/College level.
  • Sustained engagement with current practice and developing knowledge.
  • Engagement with the current and future priorities of University/College/Service strategies, aims, and ambitions.
  • Also, membership of a relevant professional body, if applicable.
  • Substantial track record of scholarship and development and delivery of teaching, and proven track record to develop and devise teaching programmes, techniques, and methods.
  • Internationally recognized excellence and reputation in Palliative Care.
  • Proven ability to plan and lead staff and efficiently deploy resources in support of major teaching activities.
  • In addition, proven track record of developing as well as devising teaching programmes, techniques, and methods.
  • Track record of student supervision and development/mentorship/coaching of early-career academic/clinical colleagues in subject area/team.
  • Ability to disseminate conceptual and complex ideas to a wide variety of audiences to promote understanding.
  • Moreover, the academic leadership of groups/activities with a substantial impact on finance and other resources.
