Position: Doctoral Candidate (Ph.D. Student) in Computer Science

About the University of Luxembourg

The University of Luxembourg is a public research university in Luxembourg City, Luxembourg. The university offers many bilingual and multilingual study programs in French, English, and German, as well as several master courses and doctoral schools entirely taught in English. In overall, the university offers over 250 courses to overall 6000 students of 120 nationalities. Moreover, all Bachelor’s students have to spend a mandatory semester abroad, reflecting the importance attached to mobility. The university, therefore, has a network and exchange deal with nearly 90 partner universities worldwide.

About position

The University of Luxembourg is seeking a Ph.D. candidate in the Computer Science and Communication research unit within its Faculty of Science, Technology, and Communication. The duration will be of a fixed-term contract for 14 months with renewable up to 3 years, full-time.

In particular, the successful appointee should do the following tasks:

  • Prepare a doctoral thesis in computer science in the above-mentioned area, which implies scientific tasks such as to undertake relevant literature review.
  • Conduct joint and independent research activities, to disseminate results at international scientific conferences/workshops. Similarly, write or assist in writing articles (with the supervisor) in peer-reviewed scientific publications, etc.
  • Assist the supervisor, Prof. Denis Zampunieris, in his teaching activities (for the supervised exercise sessions only) and in his guidance of Bachelor/Master projects, one to three hours per week in total.

Requirements

  • Masters degree in Computer Science, or related field. In addition to that, strong designing and programming capabilities.
  • Strong analytical as well as technical skills.
  • Excellent communication skills in English.
