The Biorobotics Lab is a part of Carnegie Mellon’s Robotics Institute that specializes in research and development of biological inspired robotic systems to address  real world problems such as manufacturing, minimal invasive surgery, and disaster response. It recently began investigating food, recycling, and archeology. Its dream is to design and build novel robotic systems that will fundamentally change the way bio-inspired and modular robots solve problems of national importance and expand our core understanding of fundamental science.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop embedded system for real world robotic applications.
  • Survey literature and implement state of the art techniques to solve challenging problems
  • Perform other related technical support for the research and engineering team.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or other closely related field.
  • 5+ years of relevant software development experience.
  • Strong problem solving and system prototyping skills.
  • Hand-on experience in embedded system design and development.
  • Strong C/C++ skills.
  • Experience with ARM Cortex-A/M architecture.
  • Experience with safety-critical embedded real-time systems.
  • Experience developing sensor drivers and digital communications protocols.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS/PhD in STEM or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with ROS
  • Experience with scripting languages for quick prototyping (Python or MATLAB preferred)
  • Experience with 2D and 3D computer vision.
  • Experience with mechanical and/or electrical CAD.
  • Experience with FPGA and/or ARM+FPGA development.
