The University of Tennessee Institute of Agricultural Science calls the vacancy for Faculty Position in Poultry Management.

Position Summary

The position is a 12-month full-time tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor.  The Department of Animal Science invites applicants to join an interdisciplinary research environment that fosters the development of new technologies for poultry production. Basically, Precision livestock farming (PLF) is a growing strategic area of research for the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture (UTIA). In addition to that, Tennessee leads the nation in numbers of poultry breeding flocks, and the broiler industry is vital to our state’s economy.

Contribution Areas

Moreover, the faculty Position in Poultry Management will contribute to one of the following areas of the University of Tennessee

  • Bird-level health and nutrition monitoring and management.
  • Behavioral, production, and welfare monitoring and assessment via precision livestock technologies.
  • Predictive data analytics and also algorithm development for the evaluation of large-scale phenotypic data.
  • Furthermore, engineering controls and sensor innovations to monitor and improve health, production, welfare, housing design and operation, and environmental stewardship.

Key Duties 

  • Developing an externally-funded and nationally/internationally recognized research program.
  • Teaching core undergraduate coursework in poultry production and also contributing expertise to other coursework as needed.
  • Furtehrmore, mentoring undergraduate and graduate students.

Requirements 

  •  Doctoral degree in Poultry Science, Animal Science, Agricultural/Biosystems Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • The ability to teach core undergraduate coursework in poultry production (ANSC 484 – Poultry
    Management).
  • Evidence of capacity to develop a nationally/internationally recognized research program related to precision poultry production.
  • However, the post-doctoral experience is desirable but not required.
  • Furthermore, all applicants must be qualified to obtain authorization to work in the US on a long-term basis.
