The University of Idaho is a public university in Moscow, Idaho. It is the state’s land-grant and primary research university. The university offers 142 degrees programs, from accountancy to wildlife resources, including bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral, and specialists’ degrees. Moreover, generates 74 percent of all research money in the state, with research expenditures of $100 million in 2010 alone.

About position

The University Research Divison is accepting an application for Senior Geologist to do the following specifications

  • lead or co-author position on geologic maps, technical reports, and other geology-related publications at the IGS.
  • Also, development and execution of research initiatives including grant proposals and submissions for the acquisition of research funding.
  • implementation of field-based geological research projects, collection. Similarly, analysis and interpretation of geological data and the construction as well as publication and presentation of the research and conclusions to a diverse audience.
  • n provides direct leadership and oversight of multiple, concurrent geological mapping projects, including the development and administration of multiple budgets. Similarly, supervision of other geologists and support staff involved in these projects.
  • Furthermore, a Senior Geologist reports to and coordinates work plans with Research Geologists and the Director and assists and facilitates the completion of geological field research projects at the Idaho Geological Survey (IGS).

Minimum requirements

  • Masters degree in Geology and a minimum of an additional 3 years of post-graduate applied geologic work experience.
  • Experience and skills in the development and construction of geologic maps and cross-sections.
  • Advanced knowledge and proficiency of ESRI GIS software.
  • Experience with development of technical procedures, and in being responsible for maintaining a project budget.
  • Also, experience in directing and independently conducting research and to establish collaborative and scientific relationships as part of an interdisciplinary team.
