Position: Associate Professor of Ecology/Environmental Sciences


This is a full-time tenure track faculty position. The Assistant Professor of Ecology or Environmental Science will perform the following duties in particular

  • Provides instruction for undergraduate courses in Environmental Sciences and General/Introductory Biology.
  • Supports the establishment of a new environmental science program.
  • Contributes to scholarly activities that lead to publications in quality peer-reviewed journals.
  • Serves the department and university through academic advising of students, participation in committees.
  • Establishes a productive undergraduate research program.
  • Furthermore, performs other tasks as assigned.


The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications

  • A doctoral qualification in Ecology/Environmental Science with a specialization in Environmental Science preferred. In addition to that, postdoctoral experience preferred.
  • Record of peer-reviewed publications preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills and a strong commitment to excellence in teaching undergraduate students.
  • Also, experience in obtaining grant funding.
  • Application of technology in classroom/pedagogy as well as the ability to develop a research program with underrepresented minorities.
  • Furthermore, strong candidates will be collegial and possess excellent leadership skills.

Bowie State University is a public historically black university in Prince George’s County, Maryland, north of Bowie. It is part of the University System of Maryland. Founded in 1865, Bowie State is Maryland’s oldest historically black university and one of the ten oldest in the country. Bowie State is a member school of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund. Altogether, BSU has 22 undergraduate majors, 19 master’s programs, two doctoral programs, and 14 certificate programs. Likewise, degree programs include in disciplines as diverse as computer science, education, human resource development, organizational communication, and nursing.
