About position

The Department of Geography & Geospatial Sciences at South Dakota State University opens the application for the position of Assistant Professor of Geology. This nine-moths tenure track position requires specialization in Physical Geography.

Along with teaching, the incumbent will be assisting the geology department on research activities as well. Other than that, s/he will be accountable for assisting students with assignments and other course-related issues. In addition to that, the assistant professor has to complete other additional duties assigned by the administration and department.

Minimum requirement

In order to be eligible for the position, the candidate must have the following qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Geography by the first day of employment.
  • Ability to teach Introductory Physical Geography and in the candidate’s area of specialization.
  • Ability to teach a course in Quantitative Research Methods as well as the ability to develop a strategic research plan. Similarly, the capacity to engage in Physical Geography at the national level.
  • The tendency to publish the results of original research in peer-reviewed journals, and develop an independent, externally-funded research program.
  • Furthermore, effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
