About Texas State University

Texas State University is a public research university in San Macros, Texas. It is the fifth-largest university in the state of Texas with an enrollment of over 38,000. The university operates the Science, Technology and Advanced Research (STAR) Park, technology commercialization and applied research facility. Additionally, it has a satellite campus at the Texas State University Round Rock Campus (RRC) in the greater north Austin area The Forensic Anthropology Center at Texas State is the largest forensics research facility in the world.

About position 

The Department of Anthropology at Texas State University is seeking someone to fill the post of Assistant Professor in Archaeology. The successful candidate will contribute to the department’s baccalaureate degrees in anthropology, M.A. in anthropology, and Ph.D. in applied anthropology. In general, the responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Archeology and Applied Archaeology. S/he will also aid the research activities whenever necessary.

In addition to that, the incumbent will also contribute to developing the external fundings to support the research activities. Furthermore, the assistant professor will complete all other tasks assigned by the Department or administration.

Minimum requirements

In order to be fit for the role, the candidates must have the following qualifications

  • Ph.d. in Anthropology or Archaeology at the time of application.
  • In addition to that, the research agenda in the prehistory of Texas or adjacent regions, which may include the Southwest, Plains, and Southeast of the U.S, or Northern Mexico.
  • Peer-reviewed publications in the prehistoric archaeology of Texas or adjacent regions preferred.
  • Similarly, 2) Experience in teaching, or the ability to teach, courses such as introduction to archaeology, Texas archaeology, North American archaeology, CRM archaeology, archaeological theory, archaeological methods, and field school is desirable.
