Position: Assistant Research Scientist at the  School of Plant Sciences at the University of Arizona

Roles and responsibilities

The Research Scientist will carry the following duties

  • Design and implementation of experiments in the laboratory and greenhouse.
  • Complete data management, analyses, and interpretation in a timely and effective manner.
  • Also, communicate and present results professionally to general and scientific audiences, at stakeholder meetings, scientific conferences, and field days.
  • Publish results in peer-reviewed, scientific journals, and review scientific publications.
  • Assist with additional grant writing, if needed, to support and extend this project.
  • Similarly, collaborate professionally with regional, national, and international scientists.
  • Work effectively both independently and as part of the team associated with this project.
  • Prepares reports, extension publications, and manuscripts; assists summer interns, research aides, graduate students, visiting scholars and post-doctoral researchers with their research projects.
  • Furthermore, additional duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • A Ph.D. in Plant Pathology, Microbiology, Biological Sciences, Plant Sciences, or a closely related field. In addition to that, demonstrated excellent skills in basic statistical and molecular analyses.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing real-time PCR assay for pathogen detection and quantification.
  • Similarly, demonstrated experience in testing, writing new scientific protocols, as well as operating and maintaining the technical field and laboratory equipment such as sprayers, autoclave, thermocycler, centrifuge, spectrophotometers, gel and documentation system,
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to work well in a collaborative research atmosphere are required.
