Position: Assistant Professor of Product Design

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to and support the mission of our urban land-grant university through research, teaching, and engagement.
  • Develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses, including studio and lecture courses, in the product design programs. Similarly, create and grow an internationally competitive scholarship program in product design.
  • Disseminate scholarship and teaching activities in peer-reviewed venues and/or through entrepreneurial activity.
  • Pursue external funding to support scholarship as well as advise graduate students and mentor undergraduate students.
  • Contribute to curriculum development in the product design programs.
  • Commit to supporting interdisciplinary initiatives in teaching and scholarship, collaborating with members of synergistic fields in the College of Design and across the University.
  • Work in partnership with faculty across the University to foster innovation, cultivate strategic business collaborations, advance Minnesota’s economy, and also enhance the University’s ability to produce breakthrough research that addresses society’s greatest challenges.
  • Furthermore, participate in governance at the program, department, college, and university levels.

Requirements

  • A terminal graduate degree by the start date, with at least one degree in industrial design, product design, or a related field. In addition to that, evidence of a clear vision for the active research or creative scholarship program and a strategy to procure external funding.
  • Demonstrated potential to develop and teach design studio and other core and elective courses at undergraduate and graduate levels
  • Evidence of strong collaborative and interpersonal skills as well as the strategy for developing connections with business, related professions, and communities beyond the University.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills as well as evidence of a global perspective.
  • Ability to advance the College’s and University’s commitments to equity and diversity.
