About position

Princeton University is looking for high caliber and prominent Lead Metrology Engineer to operate in the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory of the university. S/he will have full technical responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing and coordinating metrology assignments. Moreover, the position holder will be accountable for planning as well as developing projects which have an important effect on major Laboratory programs.

Key Responsibilities

The successful appointee will collaborate with the various teams and departments for specific leads and operations. In general, the incumbent will collaborate with

  • Engineers to optimize & obtain measurements for positioning and locating multiple components on NSTXU & other devices at PPPL.
  • Metrology Technicians to improve current processes and develop new methods for unique measurement challenges.
  • Responsible Engineers to devise plans to evaluate the measured data and supply reports describing findings.
  • Metrology equipment vendors on continuous improvement of software/hardware and development of new measurement techniques

Required skills and qualifications

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering, or similar degree, and at least 10 years of relevant experience thereafter, or MS in Mechanical Engineering, or similar degree, and at least 8 years of relevant experience thereafter.
  • Also, a strong CAD background with a preference for CREO Pro-E tools.  Similarly, working knowledge of Verisurf or other mathematical/statistical analysis tools.
  • Knowledge of geometrical dimensioning and tolerance per ASME Y14.5-2009 as well as knowledge and experience of metrology, techniques and measuring equipment.
  • Experience with complying with quality standards.
  • Effective written as well as oral communication skills.
