Lecturer for MedChem/Pharmacology is required at University of Rhode Island.

The Department of Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Rhode Island seeks to hire a full-time academic year lecturer with demonstrated teaching experience in the fields of medicinal chemistry and pharmacology for the spring of 2019. This is a one-year position with anticipated renewal.

Responsibilities

  • Teach didactic medicinal chemistry and pharmacology courses according to departmental curricular needs.
  • Also, Teach and/or coordinate medicinal chemistry and/or pharmacology laboratory courses according to departmental curricular needs for the BSPS program.
  • Teach general education courses in topics pertaining to human health and medicines according to departmental curricular needs.
  • Supervise graduate and undergraduate teaching assistants in medicinal chemistry laboratory courses.

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or Pharm.D. degree in the field of pharmaceutical sciences focusing on medicinal chemistry/pharmacology or a related scientific discipline (by appointment time Dec 31, 2018).
  • Demonstrated teaching experience at the college level in medicinal chemistry, pharmacology, pharmaceutical sciences, or a related scientific discipline. 
  • Also, Demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence, for example, by using technology in the classroom or other means to encourage and accelerate student learning. 
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal and verbal communications skills. 
  • Also, Demonstrated proficiency in written communication skills. 
  • Demonstrated proficiency in time management skills. 
  • Also, Demonstrated proficiency in organization skills. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups/populations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in curriculum development. 
  • Also, Demonstrated experience developing and/or supervising laboratory courses. 
  • Experience in chromatographic and spectrometric techniques such as HPLC and mass spectrometry.
  •  Also, Experience in performing biological assays typically used in the pharmaceutical sciences. 
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development in teaching and instruction. 
  • Also, Demonstrated understanding of state and federal regulation relating to laboratory safety and risk management.
