Position: Lecturer of Modern History

About position

The university is seeking a qualified and dynamic candidate fit for the role of Lecturer in Modern History at Clayton Campus. The incumbent will join the School of Philosophical, Historical and International Studies. Generally, the successful appointee will contribute to the teaching effort of the University and carry out activities to maintain and develop scholarly research and/or professional activities relevant to the profession or discipline.

In particular, the Lecturer of Modern History will do the following specifications under the Department of History

  • Conducting research, including the publication of peer-reviewed journal articles and monographs and the development of external funding applications.
  • Similarly, conducting lectures, seminars, tutorials, workshops, and student field excursions and the marking and assessment of student work.
  •  Unit coordination, including the initiation and development of teaching material, online and blended learning resources.
  • Supervision of honors and postgraduate research projects. Also, attendance at departmental, school and/or faculty meetings and/or membership of a number of committees.
  • Involvement in engagement activities, both within and beyond the University, including with professional and disciplinary associations, key stakeholders, and the broader community.

Requirements

  • A doctoral qualification in history or equivalent accreditation and standing. In addition to that, research, as evidenced by the development of research projects and high-quality publications in peer-reviewed journals. Also, chapters in books with quality presses and a scholarly monograph or significant progress towards a book-length project.
  • Demonstrated ability to attract external funding for research projects, or the capacity to do so.
  •  Strong record of teaching experience in a tertiary environment, including curriculum development and evidence of innovative pedagogy.
  • Capacity to undertake administrative tasks and service roles in both the University and the broader profession.
  • Furthermore, the capacity to work in a collegiate manner with other staff in the workplace.
