About the Position

The Washington metropolitan consortium is made up of three institutions under the leadership of Georgetown University: GU Medical Center, Inova Juniper Program, and Montgomery County Health Department. Presently 330 women from the tri-state area are actively participating.  The Medical Assistant is a key position.  S/he supports the clinicians in carrying out physical exams and blood draws, communicates with laboratories, government agencies and community practitioners and also travels between 3 WIHS sites as needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • setting up the exam room, Pap tray set up, blood draws, and checking vital signs
  • Keeps the exam rooms and lab stocked with needed supplies for conducting the physical exam and blood draw.
  • Obtains vital signs including height, weight, blood pressure, temperature, pulse and respiration. Explains test procedures to patients.
  • Coordinates sub-studies, maintains patient files and labs.
  • Carries out phlebotomy and vital signs and completes all related documentation.
  • Ensures that standard clinical procedures are implemented in all sites.
  • Packages and ships blood.
  • Packages & ships pap smears and BV slides Task.
  • Transcribes and distributes lab results.
  • Coordinates sub-studies.
  • Assists the clinicians in conducting physical exams and procedures.
  • Assists in conducting colposcopy procedures.
  • Meets regularly with research staff, faculty, lab personnel, and research patients.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • High School Diploma and a one year certificate program from an accredited school
  • Minimum 2 years prior Medical Assistant experience
  • Current certification in adult CPR/AED
  • Should be able to perform ambulatory blood pressure monitoring and phlebotomy
