Piano Teacher Vacancy at University of Arts Helsinki

The Piano Department in the Faculty of Classical Music at the University of Arts Helsinki invites applicants to join the department as the Professor of Piano Music. The Piano Teacher will perform the following duties in general

  • Carry out high-level artistic work.
  • Lead, foster and develop education within their field in cooperation with other faculty members within the university.
  • Provide students with study guides and be sufficiently at their disposal. Similarly, provide the university with necessary reports on teaching, artistic and/or research activities.
  • Participate in the student admissions process and study assessments.
  • Complete the required administrative duties associated with the post.

Additional duties 

  • Plan, implement and develop the training of pianists in the bachelor’s and master’s degree programs, Junior Academy, and doctoral schools in cooperation with other teaching staff and heads of the other departments.
  • Maintain a strong vision of the future of piano music and methods for developing the field as well as a willingness to commit to the goals of their vision on a long-term basis.
  • Promote piano music both as an independent form of art and through the training of professionals by assembling teachers of various fields of piano music and experts in the field from outside the Sibelius
  • Academy; create an inspiring learning and working environment for the students and teachers of piano music.
  • Establish and maintain international and domestic networks.
  • At the national level, promote cooperation within the field, including music schools, art institutes, orchestras, and festivals.
  • Contribute to the development of international piano student recruitment.

Requirements 

Candidates must have the following qualification to be eligible for this vacancy of a piano teacher at University of Arts Helsinki

  • The strong artistic vision of the work as well as extensive knowledge, skills, and experience in the field
  • Evidence of high-level international experience as an artist as well as strong pedagogic vision and excellent teaching skills.
  • Vast and comprehensive knowledge of their teaching field as well as evidence of successful piano teaching at the university level.
  • Evidence of proactive and dynamic development and planning of education
  • Constructive and interactive assessment and feedback skills
  • The ability to cooperate and work in teams
  • Furthermore, evidence of international networks and successful collaborations.
