About role

The College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences and the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biolog welcomes postdoctoral scholars to participate in research on Breast Cancer. In general, the incumbent will be responsible for undertaking a research project aimed at characterizing the role of the serine/threonine kinase TAOK2 and other protein kinases in poor prognosis breast cancers, such as triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) and HER2-positive breast cancers.

Key duties

In particular, postdoctoral research will perform the following specifications in the research project

  • Conducts research under limited supervision either as a member of a team or, where appropriate, independently and the production or contribution to the production of conference and seminar papers and publications from that research.
  • Participates in professional activities including, subject to availability of funds, attendance at conferences and seminars in the field of expertise.
  • Performs administrative functions primarily connected with the area of research of the academic.
  • Develops a limited amount of research-related material for teaching or other purposes with appropriate guidance from other staff. Also, covers teaching sessions if necessary.
  • Design and also operates experiments of advanced laboratory and technical equipment or conduct of advanced
    research procedures.
  • Attends meetings associated with a research or the work of the organizational unit to which the research is connected and/or at departmental, school and/or faculty meetings and/or membership of a limited number of committees.
  • Furthermore, advice within the field of the staff member’s research to postgraduate students.

Minimum requirements

In order to be eligible for this postdoctoral research jobs at Monash University, candidates must have the following qualifications

  • A doctoral qualification in the relevant field or closely related discipline.
  • Demonstrated analytical and manuscript writing and preparation skills, including a strong track record of refereed research publications in a relevant field.
  • Ability to solve complex problems by using discretion, innovation and the exercise of diagnostic skills and/or expertise.
  • Well-developed planning and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and set and meet deadlines. Similarly, excellent written communication and verbal communication skills with proven ability to produce clear,
    succinct reports and documents.
  • A demonstrated awareness of the principles of confidentiality, privacy and information handling. Similarly, demonstrated the capacity to work in a collegiate manner with other staff in the workplace, including as a
    member of a collaborative research team.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy and proficiency in the production of high-level work using software such as Microsoft Office applications and specified University software programs, with the capability and willingness to learn new packages as appropriate.
  • Broad expertise in cell biology and signaling is essential. Other expertise which is desirable includes manipulation of gene expression by shRNA/CRISPR, cell imaging and use of mouse models of cancer.
