Applications are open for the position of Program Manager at MitOst in Germany. MitOst is a non-profit organization that encourages activities and implements programs that foster cultural exchange, active citizenship, social cohesion and sustainable urban and rural development with a geographical focus on Central, Eastern, and Southeastern Europe. MitOst has around 1,400 members in over 40 countries and functions as a network as well as a cooperation and implementing partner for various foundations and institutions active in civil society support.

The program Civic Europe strengthens people, ideas and civil society organizations at a local level in Eastern and Southern Europe and supports civil society actors in their efforts to strengthen civic cohesion in their local communities. The program is divided in two pillars: on one hand, an idea challenge and civic incubator, on the other a capacity-building program for local CSOs conducted by partner organizations from the region. Civic Europe is realized by the Berlin association MitOst e.V. together with the Bulgarian CSO Sofia Platform and is funded by Stiftung Mercator.

Responsibilities

The program manager is responsible for the following tasks:

  • Coordination and practical implementation of the idea challenge, the call for ideas and the selection of the winning projects
  • Development and administration of the program’s online tools in close coordination with the IT service provider
  • Conception and implementation of network meetings and further events of the programme
  • Ongoing support and supervision of the funded projects (regarding organizational and project-related questions and financial administration)
  • Correspondence with applicants, multipliers and program partners
  • Accompanying press and public relations work for the program
  • Set-up and development of the program network
  • Support in the development of quality standards and quality management

Requirements

  • University degree (preferably in social sciences or the humanities) plus several years of work experience in the non-profit sector
  • Experience in international project and event management
  • Experience in the conception and hosting of online services and in working with IT service providers
  • Experience in planning, managing, and accounting of complex project budgets
  • Confident communication with funding institutions and institutional partners
  • Experience in PR and public relations work
  • Passion for strengthening civil society
  • Regional (southern or eastern Europe) affinity (language skills are a plus)
  • Confident use of Microsoft Office, CMS, and social media
  • High self-motivation, very good communicative and social skills
  • Ability to work in a team, autonomy, reliability
  • Ability to work under pressure, above-average commitment and willingness to work flexibly outside regular working hours and to travel abroad
  • Working language is English, very good oral and written command of the German and English languages is a requirement
