The National University of Ireland, Maynooth (also known as Maynooth University) is hiring a motivated, talented, and energetic research assistant in Molecular Biology.

About position

The Research Assistant will be responsible for working in the specific project within the Plant Biochemistry Laboratory in the Department of Biology. The research project focuses on studying how protein degradation controls plant development and the response of plants to the environment. The Research Assistant in Molecular Biology needs to collaborate with fellows from research institution from University College Dublin and Teagasc.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Participate in the isolation of new barley varieties using molecular techniques (e.g. quantitative PCR-based techniques, PCR genotyping) and genetics.
• Test barley plant responses to abiotic stresses using physiological and molecular approaches.
• Help with plant growth and care.
• Participate in the diverse tasks associated with the daily functioning of the laboratory.

Qualifications and requirements

•  BSc, MSc or Ph.D. in biology and/or plant biology and/or molecular biology.
•  Enjoy working as part of a team
• Strongly motivated
• Previous research experience in the relevant area is an asset
• Good communication and collaboration skills
