Position Title: Senior Research Scientist at the Department of Pharmacology & Physiology at the George Washington University

About George Washington University

The George Washington University (GW or GWU) is a private research university in Washington, D.C. It is the largest university-level education provider in the District of Columbia. The university comprises 14 colleges and schools, including the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences, the Elliott School of International Affairs, the GW School of Business, the School of Media and Public Affairs, the Trachtenberg School of Public Policy and Public Administration, the GW Law School and the Corcoran School of the Arts and Design. In addition to that, GWU hosts numerous research centers and institutes, including the National Security Archive and the Institute for International Economic Policy. Also, GWU has two satellite campuses: the Mount Vernon Campus in D.C. and the Virginia Science and Technology Campus.

About role

The incumbent will be responsible for planning, conducting and supervising research at a level functioning similar to that of an Associate or Full Professor.

In particular, s/he will be performing the following duties

  • Leads, designs, and executes independent research related to the goals of the lab as well as apply for funding.
  • Participate in laboratory and GW Institute for Neuroscience community, including lab meeting, seminar series, mentoring of students.
  • Furthermore, performs other duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Requirements

The ideal candidates will have the following qualifications in particular

  • Master’s degree/Ph.D. with at least 8 years of experience in a related discipline.
  • In addition to that, two years of research and/or college-level teaching in a field basic.
  • Experience must include planning, conducting and reporting as primary responsibilities.
  • A Ph.D. in Neuroscience or equivalent with 8+ years post-doctoral experience in theoretical/computational neuroscience preferred.
  • Furthermore, an ability to draft manuscript and grants independently is desirable.
