Position title: Immunology Research Scientist

Position summary

The University of Virginia invites an expert position in Immunology Research Scientist to work on work on the NIH-funded project to model immunity and inflammation outside the body using ex vivo lymph nodes from humans and animals. The successful appointee will lead an arm of this project, working in collaboration with other laboratories as needed. In addition to that, the position will also provide leadership in the area of immunology and inflammation by assisting in the training of graduate and undergraduate students, providing assistance with immunological assays and flow cytometry for other lab members, and managing relevant protocols for working with human tissue and animal models.

In addition, the research scientist will help maintain a collegial lab culture, maintain detailed scientific records of their work, and help keep laboratory safety regulations.  Depending on the interests of the candidate, there will also be opportunities to write high-quality scientific papers, aid in grant proposals, and present at national and/or international conferences.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications

  • A Ph.D. in Immunology or a related discipline by the appointment start date, or a Master’s degree with a minimum of 3 years hands-on experience in the immunology laboratory.
  • Knowledge of multi-color flow cytometry for immune cell populations, analysis of gene expression, and assays of protein concentration such as ELISA or ELIspot.
  • Strong writing ability is necessary.
