The University of West of Scotland has a vacancy for qualified Robotic and Automation System Engineer to work full-time for 24 months Knowledge Transfer Partnership in collaboration with Helia Photonics Ltd. The successful recruitment will take a lead on full development and automation of a robotics work cell applied to micro-manipulation of semiconductor chips at the company’s facility located in Livingston. Furthermore, the duties include the design and assembly of a high-performance robotic manipulator and chip gripper, development of vision control to achieve high precision micromanipulation, and programming and integration of the complete work cell.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • MSc Robotics, Mechatronics, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with Control or Automation
  • Knowledge of robot design
  • Solid knowledge in control system design;
  • Vision-based sensor systems knowledge and experience;
  • Proven proficiency and experience in at least one high-level computer programming language such as Visual Basic (preferred) or C/C++.
  • Knowledge of Maple.
  • Excellent technical writing, preparation, and reporting
  • Strong experimental background;
  • Prove capacity to teamwork and integrate into a multidisciplinary environment
