Duties
- One-on-One Academic Advising – One-on-one academic advising for ~300 engineering pre-major students. Meets with each student at least 2 times per year. Works with individual students to develop 4-year plans that include an engineering major, additional majors/minors, internships/co-op, and/or study abroad. Prepare major declaration paperwork.
- Additionally, prepare and conduct academic advising components of AARO including group meetings with parents and students, enrollment workshops and individual appointments. Includes 4 transfer AARO sessions, first-year AARO sessions, & International AARO during summer months.
- Similarly, serve as the staff lead working with the Director of Undergraduate Advising on the development and continuation of study abroad programs for engineering students.
- Coordinate the development of new programs and improvements to existing programs with Study Abroad office. Work with Lyle faculty representatives to implement new programs and changes.
- Also, track advisees’ progress towards major declaration and completion of the University Curriculum. Likewise, review progress at each advising session with students and conduct a transcript review at the conclusion of fall and spring terms. Review early and mid-term grade reports of advisees. Discuss grades and options with students.
- Additionally, assist students with forms and petitions – provide students with the correct form(s), assist students with the preparation of forms and supporting documentation, direct students to appropriate offices for signatures and answer students’ follow-up questions.
Qualifications for Senior Advisor Vacancy
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree is required.
- Additionally, three years’ work experience.
- Also, work experience with academic advising, academic records, student services or teaching in a college or university environment is strongly preferred.
- Furthermore, proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and internet applications is required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Candidate must have excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
- Additionally, the candidate must have demonstrated ability to build relationships with students, faculty and staff. Must demonstrate ability to build trust, maintain confidentiality and uphold policies and procedures.
- Moreover, the candidate must possess strong written skills, including proper usage of grammar and punctuation, as well as the ability to produce error-free communications.
- Furthermore, the candidate must possess excellent organizational skills that include effective planning, time management and project management skills.
Salary Range
Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Physical/Environmental Demands
This position must be able to stand, carry/lift 25-50 lbs., and be able to sit for long periods of time.
