The Jeanine Larson Dobbins Conservatory of Theatre and Dance at the Holland College of Arts and Media Southeast Missouri State University announces vacancy opening fro the position of Sound Designer/Engineer. The candidate must have a commitment to undergraduate and graduate education as well as student success within the framework of the teacher-scholar model. Moreover, the incumbent will contribute to the development of innovative curricula and delivery strategies, including traditional blended and online formats and participate in initiatives promoting student success, retention and degree completion.

Key Responsibilities 

The ideal candidate will be liable for the following duties

 

  • Maintain a 12-hour load each semester–6 hours teaching in the areas of sound design, periods and styles, stage management, a career in the arts, script analysis, and related theatre subjects, plus 6-hours of release for production assignments.
  • Create designs and engineer sound for 1-2 conservatory productions each semester.
  • Actively participate in the implementation of all mainstage sound designs.
  • Serve on conservatory, college and/or university committees as well as advise and mentor students.
  • Furthermore, actively assist with the recruitment and retention of all students

Requirements

The Candidate must have the following qualifications

  • MFA in Sound Design, Technical Theatre, or directly related terminal degree with significant professional experience as a sound designer.
  • Experience teaching at college/university level as a graduate assistant, instructor, or above.
  • Evidence of success as a professional theatrical sound designer/engineer for large-scale musicals and plays.
  • Ability to teach sound design, periods and styles, stage management, a career in the arts, script analysis, and related theatre subjects
  • Strong research and analysis skills, as they apply to design as well as strong sound recording and editing using Pro Tools software.
  • Excellent engineering skills as they apply to mix techniques, mic placement, and live sound application.
  • Similarly, excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Commitment to collegiality when interacting with others within the University community.
  • Furthermore, commitment to a diverse work environment, including working with multi-cultural populations and an understanding of, and sensitivity to, issues affecting women and minorities.

Southeast Missouri State University is a public university in the state of Missouri at Cape Girardeau. The university offers over 200 areas of study; including undergraduate degrees as well as master’s degrees and a cooperative Ed.D. program with the University of Missouri.
