The Department of Music Technology is seeking an energetic and enthusiastic musician to appoint as a Professor of Music Technology at the University of Arts Helsinki. This position is for a five-year fixed-term assignment from 1 August 2020 to 31 July 2025.

General duties 

The successful appointee of this vacancy at the University of Arts Helsinki Department of Music Technology will perform the following duties

  • Conduct and publish research representing their field.
  • Lead, foster as well as develop education within their field in cooperation with other faculty members within the university.
  • Provide students with study guides and be sufficiently at their disposal. Similarly, provide the university with the necessary reports on teaching, research and/or artistic activities.
  • Participate in the student admissions process and study assessments.
  • Furthermore, complete the required administrative duties associated with the post.

Requirements 

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications

  • A doctoral qualification in the related field.
  • Versatile teaching skills, pedagogical competence, and experience in developing university education.
  • Ability to provide university-level teaching and supervision in music technology with an emphasis on doctoral supervision.
  • In-depth knowledge of a particular area of ​​music technology and evidence of high-quality artistic and/or scholarly activity.
  • Deep knowledge of, in at least one particular area, comprises expertise in artistic activities, composition with technologies, musical performance with technologies, concert activities or sound installations, practice-based and/or artistic research collaboration, and development of technologies for musical performances.
  • Experience in developing and leading artistic and/or research activities, forming research groups as well as experience in obtaining research funding.
  • Broad interest in various aspects of music technology, a good understanding of artistic and practice-based research, and international networks for current and future collaborations.
  • Ability to work in teams and to develop the professional community of music technology.

The University of Arts Helsinki is a Finnish arts university in Helsinki, Finland. It is the only university in Finland that provides education in the fields it represents. In addition to Helsinki, the university has branch also in  Kuopio (department of church music) and Seinäjoki at the University Consortium of Seinäjoki (department of popular and folk music). Altogether, the university comprises three academics: The Academy of Fine Arts of the University of the Arts Helsinki, The Sibelius Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki and The Theatre Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki.
