Primary Position Function: Apply user-centered design and accessibility best practices to assess and improve people’s interactions with information technology. Focus on leading efforts to improve the accessibility of software interfaces, websites, and online applications.

Major Duties 

Accessibility review and evaluation

  • Create concise, prioritized accessibility evaluation reports for use by various stakeholder groups, including university staff and prospective software vendors
  • Also, the incumbent assess and improve the accessibility of software interfaces, websites, and online applications
  • Additionally, apply technology accessibility standards and best practices, as well as usability best practices to information design challenges
  • Recommend and implement metrics to measure improvements to accessibility
  • Furthermore, recommend improvements to streamline accessibility processes and standard operating procedures
  • Partner with the Technology Services Help Desk by setting and managing the expectations of customers
  • Also, act as an advocate for Technology Services customers in service planning and deployment across the organization
  • Likewise, coordinate with IT professionals at all levels

Qualifications for Vacancy for Accessibility Specialist 

  • Two years of progressively responsible work experience in web design, user experience design, or information design that included generating accessibility reports and using accessibility evaluation tools.
    • College coursework which included web design, user experience design, information design, or web accessibility may substitute for experience:
      • 60 semester hours of or an Associate’s degree may substitute for one year of experience
      • Likewise, 90 semester hours or a Bachelor’s degree may substitute for two years.

Salary and Appointment Information

This is a full-time Civil Service IT Technical Associate position appointed on a 12-month service basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after September 16, 2020. Salary is commensurate with experience.
