Job Summary

The University of Michigan, School of Nursing (UMSN) is seeking an Administrative Assistant Intermediate who will be responsible, under the direction of the Associate Dean for Research and Rackham Graduate Studies for day-to-day activities in the Office of Research, including providing high-level administrative and secretarial support to the Associate Dean for Research and Rackham Graduate Studies. Additionally, the Administrative Assistant Intermediate will also provide administrative support to the Director of the Ph.D. Program and the Director of the Applied Biostatistics Laboratory, as needed.

S/he will provide a full range of administrative support as assigned by the Associate Dean, including creating a welcome, organized, efficient and professional office environment and serving as the front-line resource of information to faculty, students, staff and visitors whether in-person, on the phone or via email for the office; managing calendars; making travel arrangements; etc.

Qualifications

Education and Experience: 

  • A bachelor’s degree is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience is necessary.
  • Also, a minimum of five (5) or more years of progressively responsible relevant work experience providing high-level administrative and secretarial support (preferably in higher education).
  • Likewise, proven ability or experience in coordinating complex calendars, schedules, meetings, and travel itineraries is required.
  • Similarly, strong oral and written communication skills as well as organizational skills; the ability to write clearly and concisely for various mediums.
  • Additionally, demonstrated experience at the advanced level in the use of Microsoft Office products (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook), and especially Excel.

  • Likewise, proven analytical skills and follow-through; a high degree of creativity, initiative, resourcefulness, and the ability to anticipate needs.
  • Also, demonstrated ability to set priorities, manage multiple assignments and deadlines while remaining focused is essential; display excellent judgment while operating in a flexible and professional manner.
  • Moreover, the incumbent must have a flexible, “can-do” attitude and a willingness to work successfully in a team environment.
  • Likewise, he/she must be resourceful and able to work independently.
