The incumbent will do the following duties

  • Practical application of the principles of archival arrangement and description for personal papers and organizational records in many formats including manuscripts, records series, photographs, etc
  • Additionally, the practical application of current archival and special collections descriptive practices and principles.
  • Also, he/she should demonstrate the ability to provide for the arrangement and description of university archives and manuscript analog and digital collections.
  • Furthermore, the incumbent should show the ability to provide assistance with the management of the repository portal and other digital access tools.
  • Additionally, provision of reference service in the South Texas Archives, including desk, phone, and email requests.
  • Similarly, participation in outreach, exhibits, and other programs.
  • Training and supervising student assistants, interns, and special hires in processing projects.
  • Also, participation in general library reference rotation, including nights and occasional weekends.

Qualifications

The candidate should meet the following requirements for the Vacancy for Assistant Librarian at Texas A&M University in USA.

  • One year of professional archival experience is required.
  • Additionally, demonstrated knowledge of the processing of archival collections and the preparation of finding aids in an archival content management system.
  • Also, experience with processing archival analog and digital collections and appraising donations.
  • Knowledge of tools and software used to capture, manage, and deliver born-digital records such as forensic hardware, FTK, BitCurator, or DATA Accession.
  • Additionally, familiarity with DACs, OAIS, EAD, Dublin Core, MODS, PREMIS, and XML.
  • Proficiency in using PC-based applications (Windows, word processing, spreadsheets) and other computer applications
  • In addition to that, he/she should have the ability to keep up to date with emerging technologies.
  • Similarly, familiarity with LibGuides.
  • Also, excellent analytical, interpersonal, time management, and organizational skills, as well as excellent written and oral communication abilities.
  • Furthermore, the ability to work creatively, both independently and collaboratively.
