Job Description

This is a 9-month position – August to May

This position will be responsible for mitigating both emergency and non-emergency calls that are received by the Syracuse University Ambulance (SUA) and Medical Transportation (MTS) dispatch center. The calls will involve requests for either/both ambulance and medical transport calls and the dispatcher will need to differentiate between the two. Other duties include training of new dispatchers, assistance providing medical transportation, and reviewing of dispatch best practice guidelines.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma
• Additionally, past customer service experience
• Also, the ability to multi-task and work under stressful situations
• Ability to train new dispatchers in both emergency and non-emergency call taking.
• Likewise, the ability to provide a positive customer service experience for any caller needing emergency or non-emergency assistance.

Job Specific Qualifications

• Emergency Medical Dispatcher (IAED Certified) – preferred
• Additionally, current NYS emergency medical technician (Preferred but not required)

Responsibilities

• Coordination of EMS and Medical Transport dispatch with the ability to multi-task handling both emergency and non-emergency call requests
• Also, train incoming student dispatchers
• Likewise, maintain transportee medical necessity records.
• Assist with quality assurance and quality improvement assessment of dispatch best practice guidelines.
• Additionally, assist with medical transport coverage as needed and also assist with ambulance coverage as needed if a staff member is certified EMT.
